The People's Network is made possible through sophisticated, open-source technologies that aim to create a truly decentralized and trust-less model for building wireless infrastructure.
Clearly, some people are gaming the system, but it is likely that those people will also be fueling the growth.

Hey Oz (I assuming you wrote this article). I’m glad I found your information! It sheds some light on some interesting stuff.
So after a few weeks they ask to buy it so they can earn 50% instead of the 10%.
In reality nobody was buying them. Mining hardware has a shelf life so we’re at the “dump the hardware or we lose money” phase.
In Today's video we will be taking a look at how to find the perfect placement of your miners so they don't get degraded. Also how much I have... Fast Download - Play
For those who don't have that access at their home, we're proud to be offering a network of dozens of WiFi Hotspots. Thanks to support from up.net, Peninsula Fiber Network and REMC1, these are free to use with no login required. Currently we have 17 WiFi Hotspots live, with many more to come!
A lot of these owners have deployed multiple hotspots to game the system. You don't really earn much HNT if you have a hotspot sat there with no others around it. So many people have deployed multiple hotspots to have their own network that can provide challenges to each other. Some have even gone to the extent of placing them at perfect distances apart.

However take this all with a grain of salt, thank you Helium Team for this amazing opportunity to be a part of something so liberating!
Helium already has some big partners lined up, including Lime, which will test it for tracking its lost and stolen scooters and bikes when they’re brought indoors, obscuring other connectivity, or their battery is pulled, out deactivating GPS. “It’s an ultra low-cost version of a LoJack” Helium CEO Amir Haleem says.

That's supposed to give customers additional faith in the Helium network, because it means that even if Helium goes out of business, the hotspots will still be able to operate and communicate. No packets go through Helium, and if Helium itself disappeared, the data traffuc wouldn't notice.
When I first looked into my initial thought was why would anyone offer up their internet connection to complete strangers?
I do quite well, not as well as I'd like considering other hotspots in my area, but over 100HNT per month, which is still extremely profitable.
