Hotspots are chosen by the network to issue challenges, encrypted messages over the Internet, to a target group of Hotspots. Challenges are used by Proof-of-Coverage to validate wireless coverage. Hotspots can issue challenges from any location, not just to local Hotspots.
I haven’t embarked on my usual spring conference travels because of the quarantine, but Helium’s coverage map, for now, seems to have most major U.S. cities covered. I am excited by the concept, and hopeful that the company can really bring an LPWAN to the mass market. And honestly, I’d be thrilled if my network were to be a part of that, tokens or not.

The value of HNT has appreciated considerably and it is now extremely profitable as well as an interesting project to be part of.

I am still having problems working with a wlrgrm-100, I want to be able to see what it is doing
4) The Helium market cap today is worth $1.5B. Why would that be? (Ozedit: snip, see below)
As an investor, you obviously want to get rewarded for making the most of your miner’s signal. This is a great tool that will help you to see what you’ll need to do to increase your coverage – which can be as simple as mounting your antenna outdoors or can require mounting your antenna on a tower to get it above the treeline.
This information is AVAILABLE to the public. To me that is very unsafe, and I would want someone alerting me that this is possible.
With one hotspot it won’t be very profitable, but as I learned in my town when one pops up more will quickly follow. All investments have an element of risk and you should only invest what you can afford to lose.
That’s not a problem, because Helium offers wide coverage for small packets of data, like GPS trackers or motion sensors or air quality monitors — things that make for a better word.
And secondly, why pay to be anyones affiliate? So called marketing materials doesn’t justify $99, imo.
We believe that hosts are the most important members of the Helium ecosystem and deserve the majority of the rewards for the important service they provide.
Free WiFi Hotspots in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw & Ontonagon Counties Having access to reliable, high speed internet isn't optional in 2020.
Valid points, I hadn’t realised how quickly Helium had spread in the UK. Surprisingly, Blackpool seems to have quite a lot of users, more than most other towns in the UK outside of Manchester and London.
You say it is to up the coin price so they can cash out quick. That’s 52 million plus. Why give that away when most likely you could sell them all as well!
From what I have read, the helium hotspot must remain stationary. If you move, there is a $10 fee to reassign you to your new location. Not a big deal for people moving every few years, but not ideal for a full time RVer. As a fellow RVer, I am looking into placing a unit at the home of a relative. This would give you easy access to other hotspots on the LPWan (not the hotspot, but the network) . Having data in your RV in locations that have no wifi or cellular could be a huge advantage. Think monitoring your rig’s temp while hiking. Having an alarm system that calls you. Smoke alarms that call you, Tracking devices to locate you rig if it is stollen…..
